Sunday Funday
Back in the day when I was a waitress/barkeep on a resort island, Sunday Funday was the best day of the week. During high peak summer weekends, thousands of tourists flocked to the island to relax and drink (there was a mile and a half stretch of bars) and things would get crazy. The bars would be INCREDIBLY packed with parents gone wild (most were over the age of 40 on a weekend away from the kids) and Friday’s and Saturday’s were nearly unbearable. The only thing that really got us through those days were the tips, the amazing tips. Well, when Sunday rolled around, the hungover parents would leave to go back to the mainland and we would be left with a night free of creepy old men, snarky old women and rude tourists. So what does a group of 20 something kids do when the island is ours?
Party, just a little bit 🙂 Those Sunday Funday’s were some of the best days of my life.
Unfortunately, my Sundays these days are not quite as fun. Like today, for example. Instead of trapezing around an island in the sun, I’m unpacking hundreds of boxes. And you know what? I think overnight they somehow re-pack themselves. Magic boxes.
I know, my living room is a nightmare. Luckily, the kitchen is completely unpacked.
The dining room is about 95% finished so once it’s complete, I’ll snap some photos 🙂 However, after scouring furniture stores this morning, I found my PERFECT new dining room set. It’s absolutely incredible.
This will look so amazing in my dining room. Sigh. I should probably get back to work, those boxes aren’t going to unpack themselves (can someone please invent that?)
Amazing Weekend Plans
I don’t have any new moving updates to relay to ya’ll, but for a good reason. I went out to a MUCH NEEDED happy hour with some of my favorite work buddies last night and didn’t get home until close to 10pm. As soon as I got home, I face planted onto the bed and woke up in my clothes. I know, not exactly the healthiest way to handle stress but it did cure my rage/temporary insanity. I have awesome colleagues, ya’ll. I did, however, manage to snap a few photos of the trendy bar we went to in Dupont Circle.
We ordered a trio of french fries for an appetizer, and to the waitress’s urging, tried the eggplant fries first (the middle fry in the photo below). I don’t know why I’ve never had an eggplant french fry before because it is the most heavenly thing I have ever tasted. We dipped it in marinara and it about made my life.
I have GOT to find a recipe for that.
In other news, THANK GOD IT’S THURSDAY. I know, there’s no TGIT, but right now, there needs to be. I’m so happy we are just one day away from the weekend. This week has been REALLY REALLY stressful for me in all of the facets of my life. I don’t think I’ve ever needed a weekend more. Plus, this weekend is gonna rock.
My amazing, handsome, AWESOME husband won tickets to the Backstreet Boys/New Kids on the Block concert on Friday! Yes, you can be jealous. My 13 year old self is jumping up and down, screaming and kissing the life size photo of Nick Carter on the wall right now. My husband and two of my equally boy band obsessed girlfriends are going with me.
Oh and it gets better. We have BOX seats through E’s work. Which means free food and free booze! We had the luxury of playing in the box in March when E won tickets to a Washington Wizards game.
My other favorite thing beside free food is when I get to meet someone famous. Now, before you get excited, it’s not like I met JT or Usher. Gheorghe Muresan, a Wizards basketball player and star of My Giant, was stopping by a few select boxes and he stopped in ours! It was pretty cool.
As you can see, he’s about 13 feet ball and his hand is the size of my face.
I’m really hoping that one of the BSBs or NKOTB come by our box just to pop in on Friday. I might just die if they do.

I know, I’m a little late in announcing the winner of this giveaway. Please don’t hate me! So who is the lucky person winning the fabulous machine below?
Lucky number 39, Chris and Amy, aka A Couple in the Kitchen!
We are huge fans of red velvet cake!
Congrats guys! I can’t wait to see what kind of cake pops you come up with!
Favorite Summer Breakfast Recipes
Let me begin this post with a moving update.
It’s going to be 100 degrees today. I wish I was kidding. You know what makes this worse? Our entire house is still in boxes and for some silly reason, the air conditioning refuses to work in the upstairs, so we’ve been forced to sleep on the pull-out in the man cave (basement). Granted, it’s really nice and cool down there, but the pull-out is awful. The mattress is way too firm and thin and there’s giant bars that stab you in the back. Remember in Seinfeld when Elaine broke her back on a pull out? Yeah, I’m quickly approaching that. So we tried shutting the vents in the basement in hopes that would force the air to cool the upstairs. Because I miss my big, comfy bed. And I have my adorable new sheets and comforter set on it (see below).
Super cute, right? I’m going with a black, grey and white motif in the bedroom with splashes of red. So basically to sum up this moving re-cap: it’s really hot, I want to sleep in my bed, I love my comforter set.
Let’s move on to yummy food stuff now 🙂
I don’t have any new fabulous recipes to share yet, but I thought I’d share a few of my all-time favorite easy breakfast foods. Ya’ll know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, right? Of course you do. However, when it’s the dead of summer and it’s already 89 degrees by 8am, I’m not going to eat oatmeal or a hot breakfast sandwich (which are my go-to’s). Instead, I’m going to enjoy one of the delicious, light and cool recipes below! They are all amazing and most can be made the night before. Talk about grab and go!
Strawberry Cheesecake Muffins
Whole Wheat Peanut Butter Bread
Apple Pie Smoothie
Lemon Blueberry Loaf
Fruit Salad
Oatmeal Raisin Muffins
Veggie and Cheese Omelet
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Loaf
With delicious options like these, you have no excuses for skipping this important meal!

What I’d Rather Be Doing…
As you know, I’m currently spending my fabulous Memorial Day packing. Which, um, stinks. I finally have a 3 day weekend and it’s going to be spent stuffing, taping and stacking our belongings into hundreds of boxes. I know, completely riveting and super exciting, right? So here’s what I’d rather be doing, via photographs.
And who I really wish I could be with, my twinny! Miss you MOH!
